Do you know what I know?

Do you know that God is real and present in your life? If you do, you know that nothing is impossible with God.

It’s a story that we hear in the Catholic church several times a year. The angel Gabriel appears to Mary and tells her that she will conceive a child- not just any child, the Son of God. That sentence alone would strike fear in most people, that’s probably why he started with “Do not be afraid, Mary”. Good call, Gabriel. If an angel appears in front of me, I hope he starts with that, I might faint dead away.

I think you know the rest of the story. Mary says yes, and the rest is literally history. Why would she do that? She didn’t have much in material goods, but what she had was much more valuable. Knowledge and a relationship with God. She was given a choice, an opportunity if you will, and she accepts the will of God.

Things that look impossible are always possible with God. There is always a path, a door, a window, a helping hand. We don’t always realize it at the time. What looks like a tragedy or challenge today could in fact be your biggest blessing.

That’s what happened in my life. A short span of a few minutes changed the course of my career and life. It was sad, ugly, and shocking to me, yet I am thankful for it everyday. I needed to change my life, and I didn’t do it, God stepped in. (What is the moral of the story? If God is telling you something, you should do it. God’s way is effective but not comfortable.) What had seemed “impossible” to me, suddenly became “possible”.

What do you know, Mary’s “yes” changed the world. Would your yes change the world too? You know that God will be with you every step of the way. Go ahead, say yes and let’s see what happens.
