What does Psalm 121 have to say to us?
I stumbled across this psalm on New Years Eve. It was on a card that said “God’s Promise, Psalm 121 verses 7-8”. I am not gonna lie. Knowing Bible verses by heart is not my forte. I looked it up. I can probably sing you lots of songs that have Bible verses in them, but I can’t quote them.
The psalm starts out reminding me that My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Do you believe that God is watching over and helping you? I do. I can see it over and over in my life. One of my friends is an a sticky situation at the moment. I believe whole heartedly that it will turn out ok. It’s not fun, but it will work out. She is not as positive as I am.
People are no match for God. He has promised to watch over me and He does. Constantly. I frequently give you personal examples. If I were to write all of them down, I would be writing all day, every day. If you don’t/can’t see it, you aren’t looking hard enough.
The psalm ends with The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;. It doesn’t say that nothing bad will ever happen. Bad things happen to good people every day. What you think should be fair is not, and people do not treat each other with the golden rule. What IS promised is that God is watching over us. Even the “bad” things are working for my good.
Here’s the catch. God is watching over us. However, He can only work in your life if you allow Him to. He’s patient and not pushy. Do you have kids? I don’t, but I have been a teacher most of my life. The “I don’t need your help! I know what I am doing!” speech is very familiar. Really?? Let’s see how that works out for you. If the students finally ask for help, it isn’t always possible get them out of the hole they dug, but I do what I can.
Lucky for us, when we ask for God’s help, He comes to our rescue. You may not like the way it arrives, but it’s God’s will, not ours. Do you need help today? Ask God. His “help line” is open 24/7.
