What is budding in your life right now?
Seasons change whether we like it or not and spring follows winter. Depending on where you are in the country (or world) right now, you might think I’m crazy for talking about spring- it’s still cold and dreary at your house. In my southern corner of the world, the flowers are beginning to sprout and bloom.
Not in my garden though….right now the green is just starting to peek out in my flowerbed….it’s a promise, flowers, color, and new life are coming. You can count on it. I know that I planted flowers, but somehow, it always surprises me when they come back the next year. They waited all winter and then on a sunny spring day, voilà they will appear like magic. Those seeds I planted will produce something lovely.
I got to thinking about seeds. We sow them and cultivate them all the time, sometimes without realizing it. You may know by now, I am a francophile. I love all things French. I spent 23 years in a classroom sharing that love with teenagers. I planted many, many seeds- thousands in fact. Recently, I have been fortunate to see (or at least hear about) how those seeds are blooming. In the past week, two of my former student shared with me that they are in France, or are are going this year. My teacher heart is proud.
We plant seeds in the children in our lives. I love having deep discussion with my friend’s kids. They are hilarious! While baking or crafting with them, we talk about life. If we have a baking or crafting fail, it ends up as a life lesson. I have heard them repeated back to me. “It’s ok if it doesn’t work. We will know for next time.”
Networking with others for work plants seeds too. My boss talks to lots of people about our mission of connecting people though language. She is planting seeds. Those seeds go far and wide. I met someone for the first time over the weekend who could not figure out how they knew my name until I mentioned where I work. She then lit up and we made a connection.
The weather starting to change reminds me that after a cold, hard season, something new begins. It’s an ending and a beginning all wrapped up in one. I may be the only one with a 90’s song playing in my head right now, but there is truth in that statement.
One thing ends, a job, a relationship, a project at work, and another thing takes it’s place. Winter rolls into spring and spring into summer. Growth and change are coming. I only have to look at my garden to know that flowers are coming.
Is there something new budding in your life waiting to bloom? What have you been wanting to do or try? Just like the flowers in my garden, new growth can spring up in us anytime. I’m looking forward to this season, for my garden certainly, but also for the new growth coming in my life. What’s coming in yours? Are you looking forward to it? Do something different, try something new. It will be beautiful.
