Happy Pi(e) day!

It’s March 14th- 3-14 so it’s Pi day! I think it’s an excuse for Math teachers to finally have a food day. Or even a good excuse to eat pie. I do enjoy a good slice of apple pie. Yum! This post is not about an apple pie, although I can relate it to that.

If we are talking about pie- you have the time pie of your life, what activity is taking up the most time? After work, family, and sleep, how big is the slice that you have left? Are you spending that time resting, working on hobbies, or relationships? What about time with God? How big of a piece is that?

If I relate my life to an apple pie, the crust is the foundation. It holds everything together. The crust is my spiritual life. Without that, I fall apart (and my pie is then a crisp- lol). The apples in my pie are the people in my life and activities I enjoy. The yummy sauce that binds us together is love. That’s kind of sappy, but I am relating to a pie here so go with me. The big question is the top crust. I prefer the streusel topping because it’s not uniform, it’s a little messy, but it turns out the most beautiful color. The topping is all the blessings that come my way.

I can look at it an entirely different way. PIE is Putting In Effort. Where are you “putting in effort”? We don’t get very far if we do nothing. Doing nothing gets me nothing. Putting in effort- on all fronts, relationships, work, health, exercise- moves me in the right direction. Today during my workday, I figured something out that I had been thinking about for awhile. I watched more “how to” videos, and finally it clicked. My “win” helped my whole team. It was worth the extra effort (and a little frustration). Woo hoo!!!

You can think about pi(e) day however you want. Perhaps all the sides I shared with you will inspire you to make up your own acronym. If you have one, share it in the comments so that we can all benefit. I wish you pies full of beautiful people, thoughts, and opportunities.
