What verses or quotes are on your desk?

You may be thinking- there are not Bible verses on my desk, maybe you have inspirational sayings, or just things you would like to remember. If you are anything like me, in my line of sight right now, are several Bible verses and thoughts/sayings I have written on sticky notes. I don’t actually ponder them often, but I thought enough of them to write them down or collect them, so today I am going to share.

Discern what is good and pleasing to God and DO IT! This comes from a sermon that I heard over the summer. A priest friend of mine dusts it off about once a year and I happened to be there that weekend. When I mentioned to him the familiar refrain, his answer was, “Well, are you doing it?” Well played Father. I don’t always spend the time I should in discernment in what direction to take.

Observe the opportunity. (Ecclesiastes 4:20) This one has been on my wall near my desk for literally years. It has a picture of a window. We often have opportunities but we miss them because we are not paying attention. I don’t want to miss anything! This one reminds me to slow down and really notice what is happening around me.

What’s the season? This was a question posed in a weekly message I receive. It is always well timed, the turning of summer to fall. It reminds me that the seasons of my life change too. The place I am in right now, may last a short time or a long one, but it will eventually turn into something new. It’s impossible to stay in one season forever.

It is well with my soul. I think you know this one. There’s the Bible verse, there’s a song, it’s even on t-shirts. It’s written in pretty script in a frame near my desk. I keep it nearby because even if it doesn’t feel true all the time, it is. I am right where I am supposed to be in this moment. I can trust that, and I don’t need to worry.

I hope that you enjoyed the tour of my desk. 🙂 If you do have a verse or saying nearby, what does it mean to you? Why is it there? Is it a reminder, a support, a promise? Perhaps this will inspire you to write a verse down and ponder it as you go about your week. Don’t worry if you can’t think of one, you can have one of mine!
