Happy New Year! What’s your word?

It’s hard to believe that a new year has begun! Time can seem to fly and stand still all at the same time. We all end and begin a new year together, sometimes at parties, but always at midnight wherever we happen to be. Some years the passing of time is very quiet and others a bit loud and crazy. The constant is ready or not, 2026 is here.

I’m ready for 2026. (I think so now- I will let you know how that went at the beginning of next year- lol). 2025 for me was a year of change, new opportunities, and adventures. I’m looking forward to what 2026 is going to bring me. I don’t know what it is, but I’m sure it will be an interesting story.

That brings me to my question about your word. In the Catholic mass, there is a moment when we say “Lord, only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” One time I was in mass and after we all said those words aloud, the child said “Mommy, what word?” A really great question from a child. I don’t know the one word that God can speak to heal me. It could be the name of Jesus. It could be God calling me by my name. I will have to wait to find that one out.

Each year I choose a word and song of the year. I can’t tell you how I choose them, they always seem to choose me. In truth, I forgot my word from 2025- perhaps that means that I did not need the guidance or reminder of the word anymore. The song I chose last year reminded me that turning to Jesus in all times is the way to go.

For 2026, I found my song this week, I am still contemplating the word. There a few in my head, they all seem related to each other, I will know when the right one is the right one. I don’t ever seem to have both word and song chosen on Jan 1st and that is ok.

If you are new to this concept, you can choose a word that you want to embody this year, something you want to work on, or have more of this year. It can be a phrase if you like…I chose “All is well” in 2020….you know how that year went. Honestly for all the turmoil of that year and it’s ending- all really was well the whole time.

I wish you a very happy new year filled with blessings. If you choose a word, feel free to share it with all of us, you may inspire someone else!
