I spend a lot of time talking to God, in prayer, in praise, and just plain old conversation. I sometimes wonder if He’s talking back and I’m just not listening. Do you ever feel that way?
There are definitely times in my life where I knew God was talking to me. The start of this blog is one. Time to leave a job that had helped me grow was another. Sometimes I meet people and know that God had a hand in it. The right person at the right time in the right place. Is that a coincidence? It’s not.
The gospel today was God sending Jonah to tell the people of Nineveh that they would be destroyed in 40 days. It took Jonah 3 days to spread this message the city was so large. When the king heard these words, he proclaimed a fast. Guess what? The city was not destroyed. The people listened.
I wish sometimes that it was this easy- someone telling me exactly what is going to happen. It doesn’t usually happen this way for me. It probably doesn’t for you either- if it does, I would love to chat.
I can be a little slow sometimes. When a message appears once, I think “hm”. When it appears again, I think, “maybe”, and if it’s a third time, then I think “Ok God, I hear you!”. Should it take me three times? No.
In this season of Lent, I want to pay more attention to the messages God is sending me each day. I’m sure they are there. Maybe I need to spend a little less time talking and a bit more time listening.
