Spring has sprung and the sunlight is peeking out in a beautiful pink/purple morning light as I drive to work. I have to hop on the highway a short way to make it to work. As I was sitting, waiting for the light to turn green this week, I noticed all the wildflowers by the side of the road.
I travel that way each day, I’m always in the same lane, yet I hadn’t yet seen those flowers. There wasn’t just one bunch, they were everywhere. So, since I saw them yesterday, when I was stopped in the same spot today, I actively looked and there were more than the day before. (There were probably the same number, but I didn’t notice).
That got me thinking about all the flowers that bloom in my life that I don’t notice. God’s touch and goodness are everywhere, I don’t always sit still long enough to see what is outside my window, so the pretty purple wildflowers were a good surprise this week.
What’s interesting is that the flowers were there all along, just hanging out, being pretty, holding the ground in place all along the roadside. Sometimes the things we see are just that- things that are pretty and holding something together. Since they are flowers, they won’t be there in the fall, they are here now. I should enjoy them now.
The soft morning light and the flowers won’t last forever; it’s the current season. In this season, I will take the time to slow down, take a look around, and if I’m lucky, I will find all sorts of blooms of God’s grace and abundance in my life.
