Acorns become trees. Are you becoming?

Where are you on your faith journey? Are you more like the acorn or are you becoming a tall oak tree?

It’s not a secret that I like to walk in the woods. This time of year, the acorns abound. Occasionally there is an unhappy squirrel nearby when I am admiring them. Have you ever really thought about how that acorn becomes the giant tree? It’s practically a miracle!

Oak trees are pretty amazing, they can grow up to 100 ft tall, and they can live anywhere from 100-1000 years depending on the species. I can’t tell you why they live that long, but I can tell you that they can bend without breaking, and they withstand all kinds of storms, pests, and humans.

Why am I telling you about acorns and oaks? One day I was walking in the woods (in lots of tall oaks) and giving God a piece of my mind. I happened to look down and saw a bunch of acorns. Connect the dots- they grow into these huge trees. What if I had the faith of an acorn, will I too grow into a tall, strong Christian?

Here is how we can be more like oak trees in our spiritual lives.

  1. Oak trees have a strong root system to help them withstand storms. Are you rooted in faith, Scripture, and a support system to help you withstand the storms in your life?
  2. Oak trees are tall and are reaching towards the light. Are you constantly seeking the light or are you content in the shadows?
  3. Oak trees produce fruit (acorns) that become trees and they turn CO2 into oxygen. What kind of fruit are you producing? Something that benefits others?

I will never be as tall as an oak tree, or live as long, but if I think about how that small acorn becomes that massive tree, I have hope that I can become (that I am becoming) someone who always seeks the light, can bend and not break, and will produce fruit that will multiply. No matter where you are right now in your faith journey, stay rooted in faith and you will keep growing.
