Holiday music and sounds are all around us, are you listening to the message or is it just “ambiance”?
Christmas music is all around us. The displays in stores and music begin around Halloween now! I refuse to participate until it is actually December. My holiday festiveness gets more than a month so I don’t need it to start early.
When you are in the store or at home and listening to the music, do you hear the message? I typically listen to uplifting music all year round, but I think we all need something uplifting in a dark and cold month.
All of the Christmas songs celebrate the birth of Jesus in some way. From Silent night to the Little Drummer boy, we are bombarded with messages of this tiny baby coming to save the world. Even the non-religious songs often talk about love and family. Have you really listened to the songs to hear the message?
Gifts are nice, I love to give (an receive) them. One of my superpowers is the ability to choose the perfect gift for someone. Christmas is not about the gifts under the tree, it’s about the gift God gave us in sending His only Son to the world to save us.
While you are listening to the Christmas music as you gather around the tree, bake, cook, or sit drinking your coffee, really listen to the words of the songs. What message is God sending you this Christmas?
