Well, the simplest answer to the question is: Yes, God is listening to your/our prayers. He’s just not always answering them the way that we want him to.
Do you ever find yourself in prayer, praying for a very specific outcome to whatever it is that you need? If the answer does not arrive in that exact way, do you feel like God wasn’t listening? I have certainly been guilty of that. I’m fairly certain that we all have done that.
We are asked to pray without ceasing and to tell God all of our needs. We are asked to trust that God is working things out behind the scenes and that that no answer is actually an answer. It’s not a “no”, it’s a “not yet”.
Living in the in-between of an unanswered prayer or one that just hasn’t come yet is uncomfortable. I’m not fond of the uncomfortable places, I want quick answers. I know it doesn’t work like that, but sometimes I wish it did. I mean, do I need to pray months or years about something before it shows up? Yes, apparently I do.
When you don’t get an answer right away, that doesn’t mean it’s not ever coming, it just means that it’s not coming in the way you expect. I prayed about a new job and went on job interviews for a year before I got a new job. There wasn’t anything wrong with me or the jobs I was applying for- they just weren’t the right one. I found the right one at the right time.
The charm is God’s always listening to our prayer, we just may not be able to receive the answer at that time. It’s about God’s time, not ours. So today, instead of asking God where your prayer is, try adding the words- if it is thy will Lord. See if that makes your attention to the answers easier.
