This is a question that comes to all of us from time to time. In this week’s Gospel story, Jesus changes water into wine. It’s not quite his time yet, and he knows it, but he does what his mother asks him to. We all know that everyone has different gifts and talents: the bigger question may be- have you taken the time to develop your gifts and talents? How are you using them?
How do you find your purpose if you haven’t taken the time to discover and develop your talents? Are you actively using those talents?
I had a funny discussion with one of my nieces this week. She is in college and she read an article about how some people pick up different languages better than others. Finally she has scientific proof for a talent she has. Trust me, as a French teacher, not everyone has the gift of language. It can be such a struggle for many. Put me in a Calculus class and you would see that I would not get very far- my talents lie in other areas.
For me, this blog is a test of God’s will in my life. He told me to do it. I am doing it. I sometimes wonder about the purpose, and where it is all going, I wouldn’t call myself a gifted writer. My skill in French grammar is better developed than my English grammar skills. However, I don’t think that’s the lesson here. The lesson is to pay attention and listen when you are pointed in a direction.
We get nudges and guidance along the way: the reading this week were just a reminder. The deacon giving the homily gave us a challenge that I am extending to you. Spend some time this week on God’s purpose for your life. Maybe take a step back and ask God to show you where you should go and what you should do. See what happens….you may be surprised!
