There are moments in our lives that can only be described as holy. Sometimes I hear people calling them “God moments” I have no other words to describe them. It’s the moment that is so divinely perfect, that a human could not have possibly arranged. Some are as simple as people letting me in on the highway, others are more fantastic. Here are a few of my favorites.
One such moment in my life came a year ago. I was invited to witness the ordination of my friend’s husband into the deaconate. I had never attended one before. It’s a grand affair, with many priests and deacons in attendance. The candidates lay on the floor at one point and are prayed over. My friend’s husband was in the front and it looked like the heavenly light was shining upon him.
During the pandemic, a woman moved in across the street. When I met her in person, I found out we attended the same church and know many of the same people. We had even been at the same retreat and I had not made her acquaintance. Lucky me, because she has become one of my best friends and has been there to support me in some very low moments.
When I started at the company I work for now, the class that I was going to teach got cancelled. I was very disappointed, because I needed the money at that moment, but I took a walk to clear my head. I ended up sitting by a small waterfall and prayed that something good would come of it. It did, a few weeks later I ended up subbing for another class for a week and the teacher decided to leave so I taught the rest of the session with a different class.
God moments often come to me by way of music. When I was on retreat last December, a song lyric came to my mind, and it led me to a song I had never heard. That song is my theme song this year. It says Lord with you, there is nothing I cannot do. Trust me, I need some help to write this blog. I would have laughed at you a year ago had you told me that I would be sharing my innermost thoughts with the world.
Some moments are really festive and some are very quiet, but they are happening all of the time. Are you paying attention? What is the holy moment happening in your life today?
