Perseverance is such an interesting topic. I think it comes to mind when we are struggling with life. My world is not crashing down, but I have certainly been in that place, more than once. It’s not a fun place- just ask Job.
What do you do when you can’t pay your bills, your spouse is deployed and out of reach, you lose your job or your health insurance. It can feel like there is a black cloud hanging over you and you are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. How do you persevere/keep going? How do you have faith that it’s all going to work out?
I have an answer that is simple but not simple at all. The faith you need to get through the hard times started a long time ago, with being faithful in the first place. Days, months, years of prayer, mass, devotions, acts of service even when you can’t see God working in your life- it prepares you for the moment when your outer world comes crashing down.
You’ve been building your faith, one day at a time, one prayer at a time, and on the day that you need it, it’s there. Maybe it does come in the midst of your storm, but you build that shield the same way; one moment and one prayer at a time.
Perseverance is really being faith-full. Staying the course, believing in the things unseen even when our reality is telling a much different story. It’s easy to tell you to do that, but it’s challenging to live through.
There is only one way through it, you have to ask God for his grace and mercy in all areas of your life, and to show you the way. You keep showing up in prayer, mass, devotions- you don’t give up on God, because He’s not giving up on you! Ta da- that’s the key. Be brave today and believe that whatever you are going through, God’s going to get you through it!
