How often do you talk to your guardian angel?

Today is the feast of our guardian angels. In truth, I don’t always remember that I have one, but I got to thinking about mine today and all the ways that he (I think about my angel as a he) has helped, guided, or protected me in my life.

It’s comforting (or terrifying) to think that there is one angel that has and will be with me my entire life, and he sees everything. Most of the time, I bet he is shaking his head thinking “Again? Haven’t we been down that road?” I wonder if he tells the other angels how I am wandering!

I go though cycles where I think about him and actively seek his protection and counsel. I always thank him when there is a near miss on the highway or something inexplicable happens. One time, I was teaching and the screen fell off the wall. It really should have hit me, but somehow, it went over my head and landed in front of me. I think he was shielding me like and umbrella that day. Even the kids were surprised.

I am very certain that he has been near during my travels. I don’t think I have met him in human form ever, but there are two times in my life where I would swear that I met an angel, at just the right moment. Maybe it was him and I didn’t know.

Something I heard once was that you could ask your guardian angel to intercede on your behalf with someone else’s angel. I take comfort in that today. I have a situation that I can’t fix, but what if my angel could help and all I have to do is ask? (never fear, he and I are going to have a chat later).

As you go about your day, take a moment and acknowledge the helper that God chose for you. What if guidance and assistance are closer than you think, and all you have to do is ask? Thank you Lord for my guardian angel!
