We are almost back to “real life”….in the past two weeks, there have been lots of holidays and celebrations. I spent lots of time celebrating with family and friends, and I also took some time to rest, relax, and recharge.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t find a lot of “rest time” in my daily life in a “normal” week. I have a busy daytime and nighttime schedule and Sunday is the only day that is completely free; I can read, nap, cook, etc. It was nice this past week to have some time to just ‘be’ with no worries. How often do we get that? How often do we add that time to our overscheduled lives?
Friday I had a long list of errands to do, I was going at least 6 places. One of those stops was to drop off something to a friend. Since I wasn’t working and they weren’t either, I ended up staying a good part of the day- no hurry, just spending time together. Was I worried about my list? No. It was way more important to just be in the moment and be with people I love. (I’m still working on the list and it’s all good)
I am grateful to have a few peace-full days before the hustle and bustle of work and obligations kick in tomorrow. It reminds me that I need that time every once in awhile and I should make sure that I get it. Having an afternoon or evening with people I enjoy or just time to sit on my couch and read should be the norm and not the exception.
I’m not making resolutions because those are easily broken. What I am making is an effort in 2026 to do activities that feed my soul. I want to be mindful and present this year. Yes, I was glad to see the end of 2025, not because it was a bad year, but because there was a lot of change. I can’t predict what will happen this year, but there are parts of my life that are more settled.
As we begin this year, I challenge you to find periods of rest with me, time to do things you enjoy, be present with those you love. You got this!
