The spirit inside us…

Do you ever wonder about the seemingly random holidays we have each month? There is a day for everything, food, people, even movies. I bet some of you heard “May the 4th be with you” recently. That actually got me thinking…about what? About the spirit inside of us and what unites us as spiritual beings.

If I really take a look at many of the world’s religions, there is a central theme, there is a being or a force greater than all of that is guiding us. Yes, the being goes by different names, but at the core, at the very heart of the teachings, I find more commonalties than divisions.

Not just Catholics, but other faiths talk about the Holy Spirit. I think about how that relates to me. The Holy Spirit guides me, true, but what about the spirit that lives inside me, is it an extension of the Holy Spirit or completely different?

I am made in the image and likeness of God, which means my spirit also comes from and is an extension of God. That’s powerful stuff to ponder. To me, it says I do not have to look far for guidance, because the spirit lives inside me, all I have to do is stop and listen.

In John Chapter 16, Jesus is talking to the disciples about what is coming when He is no longer with them. Jesus tells them about the Spirit of truth, and they don’t understand yet, because Jesus is still with them. I have the benefit of knowing what happens next and what spirit Jesus is referring to in the passage.

The Spirit is one with God, and even though I can’t see it, I know that it’s there and working in and through me. That was my question earlier this week- how is the spirit that is ever present working through me? My question today is how is the spirit working in me? I catch glimpses when I take time to pray and listen.

How does the Spirit of truth appear in your life? Can you see it working in you and through you? If not, have you thought about why?
