Happy Epiphany! I know it’s not technically until tomorrow, but we celebrated it today in the Catholic Church’s calendar. The three wise men following a star sounds like the beginning of a joke, but if that’s true, the jokes on us because they found exactly who they were seeking- the baby Jesus.
It sort of sounds like a tall tale, they came from the east bearing gifts, and they even stopped for directions!! (they really were wise men, lol) We don’t know how long their trip was or where it began. But think of the courage and determination that they must have had to pack up, get on their camels, and GO! The did not know if they would arrive and I would bet that they had some doubts along the way, but they kept going.
How many of you would drop what you are doing to follow a star? Can you even see a star at night when you walk out the door? If I’m lucky, I can see a few stars at night, but the glow of the modern world gets in the way most times.
The Magi/kings/wise men felt they need to take a journey to find Jesus. Do you feel that way? I know Jesus is real. I can’t see Him the same way the wise men did, but I still see Him all around. We have the benefit of the Bible for directions on how to “follow the star”, how to take the journey, how to find Jesus.
It’s not a straight or even easy path and sometimes we may get lost- I know I do. Where is the “star” or our “guiding light”? That light doesn’t leave us, it’s always there, ahead of us, showing us the way. It’s up to us to have the courage and determination of the three kings and follow.
As we arrive at the very last day of Christmas and the start of 2025, my wish for you is that you look earnestly for the “star of wonder and light” this year and to be brave enough to follow where it leads.

LOVE this reflection and challenge, Sarah! So much goodness here. Thank you!
I look forward to hearing about where the star leads you!
