What are you seeking in this season of wonder?

Advent is such an interesting time of year. It’s getting darker earlier, I want to snuggle under a nice blanket with a cup of tea and a good book. It’s also a great time for some introspection. Maybe the darkness brings it out in me.

When it’s dark this time of year, do you notice how many stars there are in the sky? Have you stopped to ponder their beauty or the vastness of the universe?

The stars are on my mind. My class just finished Le Petit Prince and the questions and thoughts about what we are truly seeking continue to swirl in my mind. In the book, the star(s) can represent many things, our guiding light, God, a goal, there are lots of possiblities.

Until today, I hadn’t thought of the three kings while reading that book, but there are some similarities. The pilot and the little prince are both in search of something and the star is an important symbol. The three kings traveled a long way and followed that star for years before they ended up finding baby Jesus.

The characters in the book and the three kings find what they are seeking. So that brings me to my question today. What are you seeking? Are you still on the way or have you found it? Do you know that you have it?

In the darkness of this winter night (or morning), take a moment to ask yourself what you are really longing for, what you are really looking for. Is it looking up to the heavens or down here on Earth? I don’t really think there is a wrong answer because we need different things at different times in our lives.

It’s ok to “not be there yet” or “not know” at this moment. The fact that you are searching at all means that you are on the right path. When the time is right, you will arrive. As the kids say these days, trust.
