What kinds of seeds are you sowing?

Lots of things are growing outside in this season. In my front flowerbed, there are flowers, and if I went out on my back porch, I can see the veggies that my neighbors have planted. It did not all appear overnight, it took some time. Someone had to plant the seeds, water them, and wait for blooms to appear.

You know as well as I do, that not all seeds grow. Many can be planted, but not all of them burst forth from the earth. Some may not bloom one year, but the next. This applies to more than just my garden.

It’s the change of a season in my life, so I have decided to become a farmer. (in a metaphorical not literal sense…which is better for the plants.) Ok, I’m a teacher, but what if I looked at it like I’m a farmer? The premise is the same. Sow the seeds, nurture them, and wait/watch them grow.

Many of the students that pass through my class, I never hear from them again and that’s ok. I’m not meant to. We had our ‘growing season’ together. Maybe the seeds I planted will bloom, maybe they won’t. Maybe it will take years for the bloom to arrive and I won’t be there to see it. That’s ok too. Maybe I just pointed them in the right direction.

I am choosing to plant far and wide, and in as many gardens as possible. What I am I planting? I am planting seeds of curiosity, cultivating kindness, sowing a love of other cultures, and always looking towards the source of life, Jesus.

What are you planting today?
